The Analog Lab

The analog lab measurement equipment is used to perform printer tests on the chips that students are designing. Special equipment in the analog laboratory is an oven designed to bring the chip to extreme temperature conditions to check its durability and performance under these conditions. Chips are usually designed to work in a very wide range of temperatures that can range from -40 to 125 degrees Celsius!

The Hardware Security Lab

In collaboration with Dr. Levi's Secure Electronic Systems Lab (Selecsys, room 248)

The lab concentrates on hardware security. Specializes in hardware security innovations including countermeasures, testing, security-evaluation and designing security primitives. The sophisticated measurement techniques developed in the laboratory are validated by a unique set of equipment that can mimic non-invasive, semi-invasive and passive, passive and active security attacks, thus covering the full range of potential security threats.

Here we actually implement hardware protection / implement algorithms that we have developed, measured and tested, and examine whether these protections are indeed capable of resisting known and famous and new types of attacks around the world.

We have developed an automation frameworks and designs that allows us to automatically update designs and measure things in a robust way and repeat experiment and validate through press button methodologies. The Security Lab has equipment that can simulate hardware attacks to see if the defenses developed at the research center do manage to protect the hardware on various technologies and computational platforms.

The Digital Measurements Lab

This lab is equipped with general measurement equipment such as Pattern Generators, Logic Analyzers, etc., along with boards with FPGA chips and microcontrollers that can be programmed to test the chips we develop. This laboratory also has equipment that allows heating and cooling components and the validation of many other reliability and robustness scenarios in the state-of-the-art technologies with advanced and novel devices. A recent edition to the digital measurements lab is a cryostat with capabilities of extreme low temperature measurements, down to 4 degrees Kelvin.

The Image Sensors Lab

Mainly cover design and implementation aspects of imagers. With experience and novelty in Time of Flight methods, integrated CMOS image sensors, advanced novel and non-CMOS devices and imagers providing design methodologies and architectures. Lately we are involved in projects covering in-sensor computing and adaptive pixels, spectral imaging and methods. We also work on low-area and low-noise imagers with radiation hardening etc. The lab is equipped with large optical table designed to serve as a platform for measuring photographic effects of all kinds, advanced emulation equipment and techniques and supporting devices and equipment.

The Reliability Lab

The Reliability Lab is where certify technicians and test our designs to ensure their quality, durability and performance. We have incorporated comprehensive testing systems in the lab continue to provide for needs for our other teams. Our devices are rigorously tested in numerous environmental conditions (under electromagnetic, IR and thermal radiation scenarios, noise levels, voltage fluctuations, aging and stress under different workloads etc.). We adapt scenarios to create solid test strategies for the academic and industrial teams. We cover advanced reliability related scenarios and have valuable inspection tools for robustness and device’s endurance (optical, imaging etc.).

The Students (open space) Design Lab

The student open source design lab is sitting on the state-of-the-art (industry level) infrastructure which support high computing power, access to the most advanced design-tools and software, advanced design methodologies (supported ny the SoC Lab and engineers), and the state-of-the art process-design-kits from numerous vendors. In this open space students and engineers enjoy flexibility to pick and place equipment in their own stations with all the needed infrastructures and facilities. We are blessed with excellent IT staff and engineers to support the wildest dreams of research student (which can be really wild and non-standard).
